Evaluation

Evaluation Planning:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

  • Female lead – contrasts with the stereotype of a male hitman/ assassin. Will appeal to fans of ‘tough chick’ films, like The Hunger Games
  • Dark, plain clothing – conforms to previous images of the ‘baddies’ in films, those with something to hide. Also allows her to blend in/ not stand out, yet still appear more sinister than those around her
  • Gloves – convention of crime/ a criminals, gives the impression of her being a professional, well experienced, seen as more of a convention of a heist film e.g. The Italian Job,
  • Idea of a hitman – well known, been done in various ways before e.g. Pulp Fiction, Hitman, John Wick
  • Low, gloomy lighting – representing the negative emotions, conveys the suggested dark content
  • Violent narrative – to appeal more to the target audience (12A), often found in crime films, specifically gangster/ mob films that deal with organised crime, such as The Godfather and Goodfellas
  • Presence of a victim – traditional for a
  • Props (phone) – conforms with technology of the time period, contrasts with crime films, probably the most popular being James Bond, where the main character has an array of gadgets to help

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

  • Gender – idea of a strong female lead is becoming more apparent and a current theme in recent films e.g. Lucy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Jane Eyer. Represents the growing equality and variety of roles between men and women
  • Age – young adult, shows that the younger generations can also get caught up in crime which supports the view, typically, held by the elderly/ older generations
  • Ethnicity – Hitman is white British to highlight the ideas that people of any ethnicity are capable of being involved in violence and crime. This is particularly relevant to the current news stories of terrorism and wars

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  • Warner Bros Studios
  • Distribute large numbers of successful films, particularly action crime films like Sherlock Holmes, The Dark Knight and Gangster Squad
  • Well-known and established company, so my media production would be promoted positively with a higher chance of success
  • Well respected company with a secure audience, meaning many people will have trust in the quality of the films they distribute and are therefore more likely to view the production

Who would be the audience for your media product?

  • Demographics we aim to attract range from late teenagers/ young adults onwards, possibly to the middle age. I don’t want to attract the elderly because some content, like the violence, may not be suitable and possibly quite distressing to some
  • It wont exclude any social classes and cover topics that would be interesting to all groups. This way a wider audience is attracted
  • Stereotypically, the production is aimed more towards men as the nature of the film focuses around typically masculine features like the guns, violence and darker aspects of the characters

How did you attract/ address your audience?

  • Interest is created with it genre being a crime film as it isn’t a common genre compared to the amount of romance, horror or action films that get released
